P3 Permaculture is a social enterprise with the goal of increasing the accessibility of permaculture education and design. To that end, we rely on the ecosystem around us to help our projects take root. This winter we will embark on a multi-year project to establish a Climate Change Farm School in the Yucatan, Mexico. To help make this happen, we are seeking to raise $1,000 to go towards the tools needed for the farm, and for the trees needed to establish a food forest.
P3 Permaculture is partnering with a family in the Yucatan, to create a permaculture education and demonstration site, which will eventually become the site of the climate change farm school. As the effects of climate change become more and more present in the Yucatan and beyond, from increasingly harsh droughts, floods, and wildfires, permaculture provides an important tool for its mitigation.
Our local partners once had a thriving farm that supported their family’s livelihood, until 13 years ago when it was destroyed by a hurricane and theft. The land has been fallow since, and is calling for hands to help it regain its former vibrancy. We will be working closely with the grandfather of this family to learn Mayan agricultural techniques. In turn we will be able to share permaculture approaches to climate change adaptation.
The creation of this school will coincide with two courses provided by P3 Permaculture: a Permaculture Design Certification course, and an Advanced, Hands-on Course focusing on restorative agriculture and off-the-grid living.
By supporting our project we will dedicate a tree or a tool to you upon the inauguration of the project this February, 2016.
